A 5-Minute Movement Break for Busy Days

A 5-Minute Movement Break for Busy Days

When your calendar is full, a movement break can feel like one more thing to schedule. It does not have to be. Five comfortable minutes away from one position can give you a chance to reset before the next task.

Minute 1: Stand and breathe

Stand up slowly and find a balanced stance. Take a few easy breaths, letting your shoulders relax. There is no need to force a particular posture.

Minute 2: Walk a little

Walk around your room or down a hallway at a comfortable pace. If you cannot step away from your desk, a few steps in place can still help you change position.

Minute 3: Move your shoulders

Gently roll your shoulders back and forward a few times. Keep the motion small and easy. If any movement feels uncomfortable, skip it.

Minute 4: Give your hands a break

Let your arms rest by your sides, then slowly open and close your hands. Shake out tension lightly rather than stretching hard or holding a painful position.

Minute 5: Reset your workspace

Return to your seat and notice what would make the next hour easier. Bring your water closer, adjust your screen, or place your feet somewhere stable. Pick one change, then get back to your day.

You can repeat this break when it fits, but do not worry about following the clock perfectly. The aim is to make moving feel approachable, not to add another rule to your day.
